In 2017, Bed & Breakfast (Jacqueline Falcone and Daniel Arismendys Taveras-Hernandez) relocated from Miami, FL to Los Angeles, CA. Formerly called the “Jacqueline Falcone Bed and Breakfast,” B&B has been organizing exhibitions and public programs from within its founder’s bedroom for the past 5 years. As a curatorial platform-cum-hospitality venture, B&B offers visitors an intimacy with artworks that furthermore questions what is considered ‘personal’ and what is deemed fit to be displayed. In addition to exhibition-making, B&B seeks to nurture community and collective expression through public programs and events.
For the month of August 2017, B&B takes residence at the Katz’s Deli headquarters, 3307 W Washington Blvd, and has constructed a domestic environment centered around the first work acquired for its permanent collection. Visitors can book a limited number of “extended viewing hours” from 9pm to 10am, during which Falcone and Taveras-Hernandez will greet guests with bedtime stories and return in the morning to serve breakfast. This residency also features spontaneous public programs to be announced via social media. The project culminates in the Katz’s Deli Brunch, during which we’ll discuss hosting as an embodied exhibition practice that has the potential for real political consequence.
